PAPER CHAINS: Sukkot Campaign
Every Israeli kid has made them: paper chain decorations for the sukkah, cut from old magazines and newspapers, glued link by link, a little crooked every time. I took that childhood craft and turned it into fashion. I designed a full look, a bra top, choker and long fringed skirt, built entirely from sukkah paper chains. Up close you can still read the Hebrew print on the links.
The model doesn’t pose next to the sukkah, she builds it. She drills into plywood walls, stands on a white plastic chair to tape chains to the schach, and squats between stacks of black produce crates in white socks. Direct flash at night, palm fronds overhead and gravel underfoot keep it raw and real, like a backyard at 11 PM the night before the holiday.
It’s Sukkot as most of us actually know it: handmade, a bit chaotic, full of joy, and dressed up anyway.
